Our Board of  Directors

The BFPA's Board of Directors is elected from the BFPA's Membership and reflects the diversity that is Barbados. In addition they are ex-officio members from various organisations for strategic partnership, oversight  and direction.  At least 50% of the Board composition must be female and 20% must be under age 25. The success of this model has been shown with BFPA's past and recent achievements.

Meet The Team

Monique Hassell

Having served on the  Board  of the  BFPA for 6 Years, in various positions the most recent being  secretary. It was inevitable Ms. Hassell would be  is an accomplished Organizational Development Specialist with more than 25 years’ experience developing tools and implementing solutions to drive performance, develop leaders and engender change in organizations across the globe.  Her experience includes working in Barbados, the U.K., Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Bahamas, Japan, Singapore, Dubai, Switzerland, Belgium, The Netherlands, Norway, France, Czech Republic, U.S.A., Germany, Austria, Trinidad and Guyana.  Ms. Hassell is resolute in her belief that the critical factor in building high performing teams lies in the engagement of employees through effective Leadership.  Throughout her career the afore-mentioned has influenced Ms. Hassell to take on positions that provide the opportunity to grow and strengthen leadership capability, whilst creating an enabling culture that empowers emerging talent to tap into their true potential.

Neil Brennan

For over 6 years Mr Brennan has served as Vice President of the Board of the BFPA. As chair of the Human Resources and Fund Raising Committee Neil has helped transform the Human Resources Model of the the BFPA; in addition he has integral in the transformation  of the BFPA financial sustainability model.

 

Neil was the Chief Administrative Officer with CIBC FirstCaribbean from 2018 until 2023 where he was responsible for the bank’s Human Resources, Property Services, Marketing & Communications, Strategy & Economics, Product, Pricing & Data Analytics, Corporate Security and Customer Experience functions. He retired From CIBC FirstCaribbean in May 2023.

Fabian

Fabian Sargeant

Fabian Sargeant is a Social Development Consultant and Professional Social Worker. He possesses a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a Master's in Public Health both from the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus. Fabian has over 17 years’ experience in Youth Work, Project Management and Community Development. He is currently employed at the Barbados Youth ADVANCE Corps within the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment.


Over the years, Fabian has worked extensively with HIV and AIDS Prevention programming, Counseling, Phlebotomy, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Parent Group Facilitation and Research. He has also worked with many governmental and non-governmental organisations on numerous projects and programmes. Fabian is the Founder and President of Men Empowerment Network Support (MENS), the premier male empowerment organization in Barbados.Fabian's passion is to contribute to the psychosocial development of individuals and groups in a proactive, confident and integrity-based manner.

Joshua Clarke

Joshua Clarke is currently a Customer Service and Technical Support Associate at Neon Gaming Lounge. He is a dedicated volunteer to all the causes he is associated with and while he has aged out of YAM he makes himself available to the youth department and is seen at least once a month. He has served not only in numerous YAM executive post including PRO.


He has served with excellence at the Barbados Red Cross being Craig awarded the following:- The Barbados Red Cross Society (2016),  
President's Award of Leadership, 
Youth  Director's Award for Excellence; The Barbados Red Cross Society (2017), The Director General's Award of Commitment, The Youth Director's Merit of Service Award.


Josh as he prefers to call is also holds Bachelor of Science in International Relations Associate Degree in Political Science and History

Ishiaka-McNiel

Ishiaka Mcniel is a well-known actor and entertainer. His love for theatre began at the Calvary Moravian Church where he participated in many of the church programmes. He also participated in programmes at the Wesley Hall Boys’ and Louis Lynch Secondary Schools.

 

What many do not know is that Ishiaka was an early member of the Youth Advocacy Movement  where he honed  his skill especially in the education of people in Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.

​

For over 18 year Mr Mcneil has protected the borders of Barbados as an immigration officer and he is prod of his contribution.  With his experience in entertainment and advertising he believes he can contribute the continued resurgence of the BFPA.

Modupe Sodeyi

Modupe Sodeyi-Boadu spent almost 20 years as a Criminal Justice professional with experience in the field of Criminology and Criminal Justice. This experience has served her well in her current role as a Project Manager with The Maria Holder Memorial Trust, a charity that works to uplift vulnerable populations across Barbados and the OECS territories.

 

In her younger years as a member of the Youth Advocacy Movement and the Commonwealth Youth Forum of Barbados, this desire to ‘give back’ contributed greatly to many highlights of her professional experience.

 

Modupe volunteers as Coordinator of the Winner’s Circle Inc. since its establishment in 2008, a charity that assists students and parents in the transition from primary to secondary school and is supported by various organisations, including the BFPA.

Johnash Tocel

Johnash Tocel has previously Representative Board member of the Barbados Family Planning Association and an executive floor member of the Youth Advocacy Movement (YAM). He s currently employed as a Programme Officer Eastern Caribbean at ECADE. Where he is living his dream working on behalf of those who need representation.

 

In addition, he is am a member of UReport Barbados Steering Committee and Team Leader of Research and Poll Development. Johnash currently holds a BSc. (Hons) Health Sciences with a specialty in Community Health from The University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus. Johnash also interned with the Barbados National Registry for Non-Communica His passion is Sexual and Reproductive Health among the youth and other minority groups within society.

Christina  Hinds

Christina Hinds is currently an Adminstrative Assistant at the City of Bridgetown Credit Union and serves  the office manager for a local trade union, where she ran and monitored several projects in areas such as members affairs and finance.

 

She received a Bachelor of Science in Financial Management from The University of the West Indies in 2019. During that time, she developed an interest in sexual and reproductive health education while volunteering with The Barbados Family Planning (BFPA) both as a youth representative on the board and with the youth section The Youth Advocacy Movement (YAM).

 

She currently serves on the YAM's executive board as the Public Relations Officer and lead facilitator on various outreach programmes on different topics such as Endometriosis and P.C.O.S, Puberty and sexual health.

Debra Joseph

Debra D. Joseph, PhD., is a Lecturer in Social Work and Coordinator of Social Work at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill.

 

She is also a clinical social worker who has been working with individuals and families for over fifteen years. Her research interests have been national and regional, in the field of HIV/AIDS, climate change, environmental justice and sustainability, domestic violence and women in fisheries.

 

She is an honorary research consultant with the ‘None in 3’ Centre at the University of Huddersfield. The Centre conducts research on domestic violence in the Caribbean as well as international. Her current publications include: HIV/AIDS, climate change, environmental justice and sustainability and domestic violence. 

Keira Watson

Keira Watson is a16-year-old student and a member of our Youth Advocacy Movement. Keira is part of the BFPA’s long -term investment in Young people to become a future leader in the organization. She excels in accounting and office procedures and is on course in the future for a profession at the regional and global level.
